Medical volunteers become actively involved in community healthcare
In recent years, the Da Nang Young Doctors’ Association has become actively involved in implementing many meaningful volunteer programmes for community healthcare across the city.

In May, the Association joined forces with the city’s Youth Federation to organise a programme entitled ‘Young Doctors Follow Uncle Ho’s teaching to Take Actions for Community Healthcare’ in Hoa Vang Rural District’s Hoa Lien Commune.
Accordingly, a total of over 50 young doctors and nurses from local hospitals provided free medical check-ups and medicines for over 500 social policy families and the elderly in the commune.
Despite her old age, 75-year-old Ngo Thi Nam from the commune’s Hien Phuoc Village tried her best to go to the Hoa Lien Commune Medical Station in order to get free medical examinations.
Mrs Nam said that the volunteer doctors and nurses were very friendly and enthusiastically. In addition to giving careful medical examinations, they offered advices and consulancy for taking prescription medicines.
Dr Nguyen Hoang Khanh from the Department of Cardiovascular and Internal Medicine of the Da Nang General Hospital remarked “When travelling through many mountainous communes across the city, we witnessed that many local residents found it very difficult to access healthcare services in their localities. Therefore, this inspired us to greater efforts to provide healthcare service for local residents”.
27-year-old Le Thi Be from the hospital’s Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation is a member of the volunteer group. She underlined that such meaningful programme gave her the opportunity to enhance her professional skills and understand thoroughly difficult lives of mountainous people.
Dr Tran Xuan Tin, the Association’s Vice Chairman, said that the Association members are qualified doctors and nurses who have been actively involved in Youth Union activities and meaningful charitable programmes.
Mr Tin added that his Association has joined efforts with the city’s Youth Federation, and the Youth Union organisation of the municipal government department and agency block to provide free medical check-ups and medicines for residents in remote mountainous areas in Da Nang, Quang Nam Province and other localities quarterly. The average cost of each trip is estimated to be hundreds of millions of VND.
These volunteer campaigns are a great opportunity for the young doctors become aware of their duties towards disadvantaged people, and to enhance their profesional skills.
