Vice Chairman of the Trade Union Tran Vu Duy Man said “In response to the National Action Month for Children 2018 entitled ‘For a Safe and Healthy Life for Children in the Digital Technology World’ between 1 and 30 June, my organisation has asked our chapters across the city to organise practical activities for children in a bid to help them enjoy a safe and healthy summer holiday”.

Also, focus has been on giving scholarships to poor studious pupils, presenting gifts to Agent Orange-affected, disabled and disadvantaged children, and organising cultural and sports exchange activities for children on International Children's Day (1 June) and during their summer holiday.

Recently, the city’s Trade Union has given scholarships, valued at 1 million VND each, to 77 pupils who were award-winners at international, national and municipal-level contests.

Amongst the honourees are Year 9 pupil Le Viet Lam from the Nguyen Ba Phat Junior High School who took 3rd prize at a national mathematics contest, Year 12 pupil Nguyen Hoang Quan from the Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Pupils with the 2nd prize at a national English contest, and Year 12 pupil Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien from the Le Quy Don School with the 2nd prize at a national chemistry contest.

In addition, 135 poor studious pupils received scholarships, worth 500,000 VND each, in recognition of their great efforts in overcoming their difficulties to gain good results in the 2017-2018 academic year.

Included are Ho Hoang Huyen Tran from the Kim Dong Junior High School, Tran Van Nam from the Nguyen Binh Khiem Junior High School, and Ha Hanh Quyen from the Tran Binh Trong Primary School.

All of the 212 scholarship recipients participated in a picnic at the Xu Dua eco-tourism site in Quang Nam Province’s Hoi An City.

Nguyen Nho Minh Uyen, a Year 9 pupil from the Hermann Gmeiner Senior High School, said she hoped that more exciting outdoor activities would be held for local children in order to help them broaden their knowledge about the history and culture of the country, as well as have fun and useful practical experience.

“The scholarships and picnic are deserving awards for the pupils in recognition of their efforts in overcoming their difficulties to gain good results. This also helps to create extra motivation for them to exert greater efforts to gain better academic results”, Vice Chairman Man added.
