On Sunday, as many as 1,000 military officers and men, along with members from the War Veterans' Association and the Youth Union organisation, all in Thanh Khe District, became actively involved in dredging the drainage system at the Phan Lang Canal.

The annual activity aims to appeal for employees from departments, agencies, and organisations, along with individuals in the city to be actively involved in dredging, repairing, and upgrading drainage systems across the city.

According to a spokesperson for the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, the city’s drainage systems stretch up to 1,073km, excluding canals, open ditches, and lakes. The annual dredging of the drainage systems helps to reduce the number of flooding hotspots in the city.

Currently, there are a total of 28 flood points in Da Nang, representing a decrease of 25 points compared with 2013.
