Yesterday, over two hectares of vegetation were destroyed in a melaleuca forest at sub-area No 41 in Hoa Khanh Nam Ward in Da Nang’s Lien Chieu District. The forest is under the management of Brigade 532.

Some local residents, who noticed the fire at 11.30 am, alerted the city’s offices of Fire Fighting and Prevention No 2 and 4.

More than 50 firefighters along with 6 fire engines rushed to the spot. The firefighters joined forces with 50 militiamen and local residents to manage to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading.

However, the firefighters found it very difficult to access the burning area due to its difficult terrain combined with strong winds, and the hot and dry conditions.

Thanks to the great efforts of the participants, the blaze was finally extinguished after 2 more hours.

Due to the extremely hot weather, relevant agencies arranged forces for monitoring and spraying water on fully extinguished area to prevent fire from recurring.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
