Results of worker housing design contest announced
The awards ceremony of a contest to design accomodation for sale and lease to workers employed at Da Nang’s industrial parks (IPs) took place in the city on Thursday.
The contest attracted the participation of 5 domestic and foreign design consultancies in total.
Under the contest’s rules, there were 3 housing model design options for the entrants, namely one-storey houses, 3 - 5 storey apartment buildings, and similar ones featuring between 5 and 12 storeys.
In the end, the Ha Noi-located National Institute of Architecture won the first prize of 150 million VND, whilst the second prize of 50 million VND went to the Da Nang-headquartered Green City Consulting and Designing Construction Ltd Co.
Addressing awards ceremony, the municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman cum Head of the Selection Council for the contest, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, underlined the significance of the contest in offering the best design ideas for the implementation of the city-issued policies for labourers in terms of housing programmes.
Currently, there are a total of more than 100,000 workers employed at local IPs, and 40% of them come from other localities nationwide. Therefore, the city now sees a growing housing demand amongst the rural-to-urban immigrants. In reality, the accomodation construction for local workers have been carried out spontaneously, and most of them do not meet minimum standards regarding thermal comfort, sanitation, and safety requirements.
The city authorities will appeal for investment from the public and other financial sources to implement the winning ideas for worker housing projects in the coming time.
