Efforts to care for the elderly
Over recent years, the Da Nang authorities have paid special attention to caring for the elderly with a focus on taking care of their health and enhancing their spiritual life.

The city is now home to 3 care centres for single seniors or homeless people. They are the care centre for those who had made great contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause at 64 Phan Tu in Ngu Hanh Son District, the charity shelter at 18 Phan Tu, and the centre for social protection at 148 Da Son in Lien Chieu District.
Hundreds of social policy beneficiaries, including single seniors, are being cared for at these centres. Many of them are suffering from mental health problems and limited mobility.
The elderly, with or without retirement pensions, are receiving monthly allowances from the municipal authorities, and are provided with free health insurance cards and arrangement benefits when they die.
In a bid to enhance the quality of the spiritual and material lives of the elderly, a new centre for social protection was put into use in May. The venue is now home to 70 single elderly people aged between 60 and 102 years old, along with 100 children and the disabled. The oldest person living there is 102-year-old Nguyen Thi Lan from Yen Ne Village, Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Vang District.
The construction of a care centre for the elderly is underway, and it is expected to be put into operation in June 2019. Once operational, the building will be home to around 150 seniors.
