Urgent intervention to tackle erosion at Sao Bien swimming area needed
Following recent instructions from the Da Nang government, the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches is in charge of taking measures to ensure the safety of beachgoers at the erosion-ravaged Sao Bien public swimming area as part of the My Khe Beach.
Reports on checks and the handling of the existing erosion problem were submitted to the municipal government today.
It was reported that an about over 2m-deep waterhole was created at the Sao Bien area following torrential rains pouring down the site on 20 October .
Previously, in January, the Sao Bien area had suffered devastating erosion. Parts of the embankment that runs along the beach were worn away by wave action and tidal currents, exposing the steel bars inside the structure and creating deep waterholes on the beach.
Swimmers are now advised to stay away the erosion-ravaged swimming areas so as to avoid any unexpected incidents.
