In order to tackle the problem of salinity intrusion and water scarcity in Da Nang, it is high time for the city, as soon as possible, to accelerate the progress of the ongoing Hoa Trung Water Supply Plant project, to start work on the Hoa Lien Water Supply Plant, and to accelerate the upgrading of the Cau Do Water Plant.

Director of the municipal Department of Construction Vu Quang Hung underlined the great significance of the Hoa Lien Water Supply Plant in ensuring long-term water supplies for the city.

Deputy Director of the city's Agriculture and Rural Development Department Huynh Van Thang said concerned units have unanimously agreed on the construction of a water dam along a section of the Cu De River which runs through the Nam My Village in suburban Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune, about 4 km away from the Pho Nam cable bridge.

Once it is put into operation, the dam can help to ensure sufficient water sources for the full operation of the Hoa Lien Water Supply Plant at a daily capacity of 120,000m3 of water.

It was reported that relevant local agencies had joined forces with the Da Nang Water Supply Company (DAWACO) and consultancy units from both home and aboard in completing reports on environmental impact assessment of the project. Also, pre-feasibility study on the project and the appraising of auxiliary facilities have to date been completed on right track.

DAWACO Deputy General Director Tran Phuoc Thuong said his company has basically completed investment preparation procedures for the construction of the Hoa Lien plant, and is now waiting for the municipal government’s approval on the specific form of investment for this important project.

The Cu De River was selected for the dam site and for the Hoa Lien Water Plant.

A water dam will be built along a section of the Cu De River which runs through the Nam My Village in suburban Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune, about 4 km away from the Pho Nam cable bridge.

In an attempt to ensure the sufficient water supply for the daily lives, and the agricultural and industrial production activities of local citizens, DAWACO is planning to install more pipes which supply water sources from the An Trach pumping station to the Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply plant.

Besides, special heed will be paid to appropriately regulating the water supply and maximising the capacity of small-sized water plants in local suburb areas.

In July, the municipal People’s Council gave the green light to the implementation of the city’s water supply system expansion project, the upgrading of the Cau Do Water Plant in Cam Le District, and the construction of the Hoa Trung and Hoa Lien water supply plants with daily capacities of 10,000m3 and 120,000m3 of water respectively.

The deployment of these key projects is scheduled to be completed by late 2020 at a total cost of 2,375 billion VND. To date, 10 billion VND from the city budget has been spent on site clearance work.
