In November alone, a total of 250 cases of dengue infection was reported. Although this month saw a slight decrease in the number of dengue fever cases in the locality compared with the same period last year, the disease situation is still complicated.
Consequently, the district and ward authorities have encouraged local residents to take proactive measures against this disease.
In particular, the municipal Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has distributed about 80,000 leaflets to local citizens, displayed 300 posters in public areas, and widely publicised the epidemic amongst school pupils and citizens across the city.
As of 4 December, 885 cases of dengue fever had been recorded in Lien Chieu District, with the highest number reported in the district’s Hoa Khanh Bac and Hoa Khanh Nam wards.
Therefore, the district’s Medical Centre has worked with local primary, junior and senior high schools to publicise widely the epidemic amongst their pupils, as well as raise their awareness about clearing bushy areas near their homes and schools.
In addition to encouraging people to take the initiative to prevent the disease, the municipal Preventive Medicine Centre has urged parents to get their kids vaccinated periodically.
Recently, CDC has offered around 1,000 poor women with screening tests for the early detection of breast or cervical cancer.
