On Thursday, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh made inspection visits to the Hoa Phuoc and Kim Lien quarantine stations in order to check the prevention and control of African swine fever (ASF) there.

He was accompanied by leaders of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the local Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary.

At the Kim Lien Quarantine Station, Vice Chairman Minh, plus veterinary staff, checked the truck with the registration plate No 47C-09487 which was en route from Bac Giang Province to southern localities carrying a total of 190 pigs.

The truck driver showed an animal quarantine certificate granted by the provincial Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, and the seals on the vehicle were still unbroken.

During his inspection visits, the city leader urged the Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary to arrange veterinary staff around the clock at the Hoa Phuoc and Kim Lien quarantine stations in order to strictly check the pig and pork product transporting vehicles.

Strictly penalties should be imposed on any violations relating to the transportation of animal products with unknown origins.

According to the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, no cases of African swine fever (ASF)-infected pigs have been reported in the city.

However, the city is now facing a high risk of an ASF epidemic because a daily average of between 3,200 and 4,500 pigs are transported from northern to southern localities through the city.

Therefore, functional bodies are busy developing action plans on promptly responding to and controlling the virus.

Previously, the Department had asked the Agency of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary to supply 1,152 litres of Benkocid chemicals solution to districts.

Specifically, a total of 5,000 litres of Benkocid chemicals had been supplied to Hoa Vang District in two times during this year in order to help the locality take proactive measures to prevent the spread of ASF to the city.
