The country witnessed 64 traffic accidents that killed 41 people and injured a further 42 during the two-day national holiday to mark the Hung Kings Day over the weekend.

An accident occurred at about 6am yesterday when four automobile crashed into each other on the Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Highway in Yen Bang Commune, Y Yen District in the northern province of Nam Dinh.

The Ministry of Public Security said traffic police fined more than 4,800 drivers a total of nearly 4.3 billion VND (186,900 US$), and temporarily seized 24 automobiles, 554 motorbikes and 615 driving licences.

Waterway police fined more than 300 violators a total of 321 million VND (13,900 USD).
