The city as a destination for medical tourism
Da Nang has made great efforts to make it an attractive medical tourism destination for visitors with a focus on promoting the application of advanced technology in giving medical examinations and treatment in local hospitals. Therefore, the city has become a focus of foreign tourists who want to benefit from these services.

Most notably, traditional medicine methods have been effectively used in treatments at the Health Tourism Unit under the management of the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital.
The main reason is thought to be that Da Nang boasts abundant and organic resources of medical herbs, ensuring the quality and safety for patients. Notably, the city has a wide range of traditional Vietnamese medicines such as Ngoc Linh ginsengs, green lima mushrooms, Tra My cinnamon, peppermint, and cajuput.
Located at 342 Phan Chau Trinh Street in Hai Chau District, the Health Tourism Unit opened its doors to the public in June 2017.
The unit now has 1 doctorate, 2 doctors, and 10 nurses who all can speak foreign languages well.
After the first 2 years of operation, the unit has affirmed its reputation in Viet Nam, and the world.
In 2018 alone, the unit provided medical check-ups and treatments for 310 foreigners in total. Over the first 3 months of this year, it saw a 61.1% increase in the number of foreign patients compared with the same period last year.
Various modern methods are being used in treatments at the unit, including acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal massage, chiropractic, cupping, physiotherapy, and thread embedding.
In addition, the unit has applied the results of scientific research into producing medicine products.
It has effectively used advanced treatment technologies transferred from foreign countries, including acupuncture and facial palsy treatment from the Kyung Hee University in South Korea’s Seoul.
Also, doctors from the unit have participated in academic exchange activities relating to physiotherapy and cerebrovascular accident with its counterparts from the US Steady Footsteps organisation.
The unit has won the trust of tourists from both home and abroad thanks to the efficiency of the technological applications in medical examinations and treatment, as well as the professionalism and dedication of the unit’s medical staff and doctors.
Mr and Mrs Valeria.H highly praised the unit for its effective medical treatment for their diseases. They were also very impressed and satisfied with the enthusiastic attitude and friendly behaviour of the unit’s medical staff towards their patients.
Dr Nguyen Van Dung, Head of the unit, said his unit is providing medical examinations and treatment, plus functional rehabilitation services, for tourists.
Currently, his unit is cooperating with relevant agencies in central regional localities to grow and provide medicinal herbs in a stable manner to the unit.
