The awards ceremony for a national-level ‘Traffic Safety for Children’s Smile’ competition during the 2018-2019 period took place in Da Nang on Sunday afternoon.

The event was jointly organised by the Honda Vietnam Company, the Department of Primary Education under the Ministry of Education and Training, and the National Traffic Safety Committee.

The competition’s organisers had received a total of nearly 700,000 entries from 3rd, 4th and 5th grade pupils, along with around 21,000 entries from teachers, all from 1,560 primary schools nationwide.

As a result, the organisers gave out 3 first, 15 second, 20 third and 850 consolation prizes to outstanding pupils, whilst one special, 5 first, 13 second, and 150 consolation prizes went to teachers.

In his remarks at the awards ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia said the ‘Traffic Safety for Children’s Smile’ programme has been implemented on a trial basis since the 2008-2009 academic year. Over the past 11 years, the programme has been expanded into 1,560 primary schools across 19 cities and provinces nationwide.

Deputy Minister Nghia asked the departments of Education and Training to give even more support to their local primary schools in implementing this programme.

She also urged all teachers nationwide to continue conducting research, and renewing their teaching methods in order to make their lessons about traffic safety even more attractive and effective in the coming years.
