The mid-central region is expected to experience another intense heatwave, with the mercury soaring higher into the next days, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has warned. In particular, localities from Da Nang to Quang Ngai are now sweltering the severe heat with temperatures staying sultry in the daytime.

The current unpleasant weather pattern is directly caused by the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region.

In mid-central regional localities, readings are predicted to be as high as 36-38 degrees Celsius in the daytime, even 39 degree Celsius in some of their parts. Mercury can remain above 35 degree Celsius in some parts of the city, especially from 9.00am until 5.00pm. Meanwhile, the lowest humidity is reported as between 40 and 55%.

In particular, a sizzling heatwave is expected to bring temperatures as high as 39 degrees Celsius to Da Nang on Saturday. Forecasters are predicting temperatures of 36-38 degrees Celsius on average in days to come.

Aside from the heat wave, mid-central regional localities are likely to brace for thunderstorms, lighting and strong winds in their mountainous areas in the nighttime.

The choking heat is now prompting the risk of forest fires in midlands and mountainous areas, fire and explosion hazards in residential areas due to electric energy consumption, and the probable outbreaks of epidemics sparked by blasts of hot air.

Also, the public should avoid going out during the hottest part of the day between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
