Two Mongolian nationals, namely 37-year-old Yagaazad Naranbat and 33-year-old Baasanjav Shinebayar, have been detained in Da Nang for investigation into charges of ‘stealing property’ pursuant to Article 138 of the national Penal Code.

At 1.00pm on 26 November, the Social Order-related Crime Investigation Division of the Da Nang Police Department received a report from 46 year-old Wong Kit Ching C., about her stolen Visa card and thieves using it to purchase goods in Da Nang.

The Hong Kong victim said she found that the bottom of her handbag had been slashed and some items of property had been lost whilst she was visiting the Da Nang Cathedral, known locally as ‘Nha Tho Con Ga’ (Rooster Cathedral), at noon on the same day. Her stolen property consisted of a credit card, 3.5 million VND and 500 USD in cash, and some important personal papers.

After receiving the report from the victim, the city’s police officers carried out their search for the thieves who stole Visa card and they were caught by the police.

During interrogation, the offenders confessed that they and 8 other Mongolian nationals rent a house at 18 Le Minh Trung in Son Tra District’s An Hai Bac Ward, and they together conducted illegal activities.

They also said around 8.00am on 26 November, Baasanjav Shinebayar rode a motorcycle and carried Yagaazad Naranbat as a pillion passenger on his vehicle to go to some of the city’s popular attractions for stealing property. After that, the Mongolian thieves used visa cards stole from the victims to buy jewelry, gold, silver and cell phones in shops and supermarkets across Da Nang. Then, Mongolian pickpockets brought their bought items from money theft from the victims to their country for selling. The Mongolian pickpockets have already conducted many such theft cases across the city.

After examining the offenders’ rental house at 18 Le Minh Trung, the police found that 8 Mongolian nationals (4 men and 4 women) were staying here. Also, there were a computer, a card printer, 154 blank credit cards, and 86 blank credit cards with chips.

Currently, the local police are expanding their investigation after the arrests.
