The Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has said powerful storm Kammuri slightly weakened after entering the East Sea on Tuesday, 3 December, but it is still expected to dump more rain.  In addition, the Truong Sa Archipelago is warning of high tides, combined with strong winds caused by Kammuri.

At around 7.00 am today, 4 December, the typhoon was located at latitude 14°1’N and longitude 117°7’E, about 480km east-northeast of the Song Tu Tay Island, part of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago in the East Sea. The strongest wind speeds near its centre were between 90 and 115kph (level 10/11).

Over the next 24 hours, Kammuri is predicted to move west-northwest at the speed of about 15km per hour and continue to weaken.

At around 7.00 am tomorrow, 4 December, the storm’s position should be at latitude 15°N and longitude 114°7’E, about 400km north of the Song Tu Tay Island.

Over the next 24 - 48 hours, the storm is forecast to change its path from west-northwest to south-southwest, and weaken into tropical depression.

Due to the effects from a cold front, Da Nang, and elsewhere in the mid-central region from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai provinces, are experiencing wet weather, and low temperatures. Meanwhile, northeast winds levels 6 - 7, with a gust of levels 7 - 8, and rough seas with 3 - 5 meter high waves are likely to be seen off the Quang Binh Province-Quang Ngai coast.

Currently, 44 of the city’s fishing vessels, with a total of 329 crew members, are operating at sea. In order to proactively respond to high winds and strong waves at sea, the municipal Border Guard High Command has asked local relevant agencies to keep the fishermen fully informed about the evolution of the storm so that they can avoid affected areas.
