A ceremony took place in Da Nang on Friday to wrap up the 'Urban Traffic Corridor Improvement' project.

Funded by the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), the over 2.86 million USD project was carried out in Da Nang from July 2015 to September 2019.

The project aimed to improve traffic systems in urban areas, thereby promoting the city's sustainable progress.

The project focused on developing public bus services connecting new residential areas on the eastern side of the Han River with inner-city, and creating a ‘Smart Parking’ mobile app.

Under the project, 8 TMF-funded buses have been put into operation since July 2017. To date, these buses have served more than 190,300 passengers in total. The number of passengers using these buses in the city has increased significantly. Over 90% of the passengers rated their satisfaction level of the bus quality services at 'very good' and 'good'.

Meanwhile, the ‘Smart Parking’ mobile app has allowed car drivers to find vacant parking lots on Bach Dang Street, and pay any parking fees via their mobile phones, in the context of limited parking areas.

In his remarks at the ceremony, CEO cum General Secretary of TMF Shin Aoyama highlighted the significance of the 'Urban Traffic Corridor Improvement' project in addressing the growing travel demand of local residents, as well as ensuring the sustainability of the city's urban space heritage.

For his part, municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung underscored the importance of the project in encouraging local residents to the use of public transport service.

Mr Dung noted the project has provided the city with valuable experience in using effectively technological solutions for dealing with the lack of public parking areas throughout the city.
