Da Nang named among top Vietnamese localities for voluntary blood donations
Over the past 5 years, the Da Nang Red Cross Society has organised a handful of humanitarian programmes worth a combined total of over 210 billion VND benefiting over 540,000 needy people citywide.
Also, the city’s Red Cross Society has called on numerous domestic and foreign philanthropists to make donations in a bid to support 21,229 needy people.
The review period has seen the Society’s active involvement in locally-held humanitarian activities, thereby partly facilitating the city’s poverty reduction campaigns.
It is worth praising that Da Nang is one of the Vietnamese localities to have the highest number of voluntary blood donors. For the time being, 3.3% of the city’s population involve in highly-meaningful blood donation campaigns, with more than 40,000 blood units donated every year, a figure much higher than Viet Nam’s national average.
The figures were released at a recent meeting to review the performance of the Da Nang Red Cross Society over the 2015 - 2020 period.
As for major tasks for the 2020 – 2025 period, the focus will be paid on appealling for more engagement by domestic and foreign donors to help the poor and disadvantaged.
Besides, another heed will be paid to widely publicising natural disaster mitigation and first aid skills.
Also at the review event, 53 groups and individuals were awarded certificates of merit from the Viet Nam Red Cross Society (VRC) Central Committee in recognition of their dedicated support to social and humanitarian activities.
Meanwhile, 16 dedicated units and individuals were honoured with certificates of merit from the municipal People's Committee Chairman.
