Two new community transmission cases in Viet Nam, one detected in Da Nang and the other in Quang Ngai
Two new community transmission cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Viet Nam, taking the country's total to 420, and bringing the number of cases in the community in Viet Nam over recent days to 4, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday evening.
The 419th patient is a 17-year-old man, a resident of Quang Phu Ward, Quang Ngai City, Quang Ngai Province.
On 14 July, he came to the Da Nang Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital to take care of his brother. He returned to his home town in Quang Ngai Province by a passenger coach on 17 July, and he shared the vehicle with someone who are his fellow country-people returning from the Da Nang C Hospital.
On 20 July, the Quang Ngai native came back to the Da Nang Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital, and started to develop fever symptoms.
On 22 July, the young man took a train from Da Nang to Quang Ngai Province. On the same day, he visited the Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital for medical examinations after showing the most common symptoms at onset of COVID-19 including fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
On 24 July, the man's throat swabs and blood serum samples which were taken by staff of the Quang Ngai Province Center for Disease Control were sent to the Nha Trang Pasteur Institute's lab to test for coronavirus. As a result, his test results came back positive two days later.
The man is being treated at the Binh Son Medical Centre in Quang Ngai Province.
A 71-year-old female resident of Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang, has become the 420th case to be diagnosed with coronavirus in Viet Nam till date.
The old woman started with a fever, followed by chest pain on 12 July, and she was hospitalised at the Da Nang C Hospital on 22 July.
On 25 July, the hospital sent her throat swabs and blood serum samples to the Da Nang Centre for Disease Control lab to test for the deadly virus, and her tests returned a positive result.
She is receiving treatment at the Da Nang C Hospital.
The initial epidemiological investigation results show that the woman visited her daughter's house in Ward 5, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City from 21 June - 8 July. Before being admitted to the Da Nang C Hospital for medical treatment, she had lived with her husband, her son and her daughter-in-law in the residential area No 9 in Hoa Cuong Nam Ward, Hai Chau District.
Da Nang' health officials are tracing close contacts of the city's new coronavirus carrier.
