In the wake of the typhoon Molave-triggered heavy rain, floodwater discharged from the Dak Mi 4 hydropower dam on the upstream of Vu Gia River has been blamed for flooding many areas in Da Nang’s suburb Hoa Vang District over the past two days.

Le Son Nam village was still only fully accessible by boat on Thursday afternoon

As of 5pm on October 29, 15 areas with a combined total of 281 homes across the district have been flooded, according to the municipal Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue data.

This unexpected incident left the affected families without power, which made their lives turn upside down.

Also getting stuck in the same inundation trouble, such many roads as DH409 and Huong Lam - La Chau were submerged in water on Thursday afternoon, obstructing traffic movement.

The Le Son Nam and La Bong in Hoa Tien Commune were hardest hit with some of their parts submerged in 1.5 -2m of water. 

The water still receding slowly

In light of the severe flooding, the only access to the Le Son Nam village is by boat. Many residents have rushed to higher places for safety.

In Hoa Vang district alone, the typhoon’s rampage left 5 residents injured, 25 houses completely roofless, 21 houses damaged and 378 trees fallen. In addition, the natural blow wreaked huge havocs to 10.35 ha of vegetables, 0.1 ha of flowers and 20.13 ha of trees across the countryside district.
