Da Nang is developing an action plan to boost its maritime economic development in a sustainable manner, thereby step-by-step turning itself into a major sea-based economic hub in Viet Nam in the future.

The Da Nang Port and Da Nang International Airport serve as an important gateway for the logistics service supply chains to the ASEAN and Asia-Pacific regions.

The move is part of Da Nang’s sustainable maritime economic development strategy to 2030 with vision to 2045, with a target of projecting Da Nang as a major marine economic hub and an international maritime urban area in Viet Nam.

Under its action plan, Da Nang is targeting a 10 % contribution by the sea-based economic sectors to the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2025, and 15% by 2030. The sea-based economic sectors must develop sustainably in line with international standards, and have good control of natural resource exploitation.

Besides, fully tapping the marine tourism development potential in tandem with creating unique marine tourism products and developing high-quality resorts have been all cited as main tasks for helping the city realise its targets.

Also, special attention has been paid to making the Da Nang Port into a modern container port in Central Viet Nam, as well as developing a synchronous logistics infrastructure system which is capable of handling goods arising during the transport process in the city, its neighbours and other countries worldwide.

Both Dr Huynh Huy Hoa, Director of the Da Nang Socio-Economic Development Research Institute and Dr. Huynh Thi Hong Hanh, Lecturer of the Da Nang University of Economics underlined a must-do for Da Nang to build the Lien Chieu Port and convert the current Tien Sa Port into a special-use port for cruise ships as soon as possible, with the main intention of helping Da Nang turn itself into a leading international commercial gateway in the ASEAN region in the time to come.

They also stressed the need for the city to boost its blue economy development associated with ensuring local security and defence, preventing degradation of the sea environment, and restoring and preserving important marine ecosystems.
