The deployment plans for the project were put into intensive discussions at a recent seminar jointly organised by the Viet Nam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the GreenViet, a non-profit organisation working to conserve important ecosystems and endangered species in the Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands regions.
Jointly implemented by the GreenViet and Germany-based Gustav Stresemann Institute, the project is expected to run 42 months, and it will end in December 2023.
Under the project, the EU-granted more than 15 billion VND will be spent on providing technical and financial support to civil society organisations (CSOs) in Central Viet Nam and Central Highlands so that they can implement transparent and sustainable biodiversity conservation and environmental protection activities there.
Also, special attention will be paid to raising public awareness of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection in the regional localities, and calling on more businesses to enhance the sense of corporate social responsibility in this meaningful aspect.
In particular, reasonable measures will be taken to protect the endangered red-shanked douc langurs currently living on the Son Tra Peninsula, with a focus on conducting surveys to update its population and distribution features for safeguarding schemes.
