Da Nang people give farmers in COVID-19 worst hit province in Viet Nam a helping hand
Ten tonnes of kohlrabi bulbs and cabbages came to Da Nang on Wednesday from the northern province of Hai Duong. Some people in Da Nang transported the vegetables voluntarily from the COVID-19 worst hit province in Viet Nam to their city for sale with the purpose of giving farmers in the virus-hit locality a helping hand. Their much-hailed move shows the spirit of mutual love and compassion of Vietnamese people, as well as promotes the long-lasting national tradition of ‘good leaves cover torn leaves'.

Since a truck carrying bags of kohlrabi bulbs and cabbages stopped at 370 on 2 September Street on Wednesday, many Da Nang people happily have bought veggies as a way to support farmers in the COVID-19 worst hit province in Viet Nam.
“I support such small yet meaningful activity initiated by the voluntary group in Da Nang, especially during the pandemic hardship. I am willing to help Hai Duong farmers at this time by buying their products” said Nguyen Thi Si, a resident in Hai Chau District.
Likewise, Ho Dac Son residing in Cam Le District said Da Nang was once severely affected by the two waves of Covid-19 infections last year, so local residents could sympathise and understand how difficult the situation was. He hoped that Da Nang people could lend a helping hand to Hai Duong farmers by buying their veggies in order to help them go through their current difficulties.

Tran Dinh Quoc Khuong, a member of the voluntary group, remarked the majority of vegetables grown in Hai Duong Province have been left unsold as its neighbours have been restricting goods transport activities for COVID-19 prevention and control, leaving agricultural produce stuck and impacting farmers' livelihoods.

Data published by Hai Duong authorities shows that this province will harvest 4,087 ha of the winter-spring crops. Accordingly, 55,902 tonnes of scallion, 26,766 tonnes of carrots, and 8,100 tonnes of cabbages, kohlrabi bulbs, cauliflowers and leafy green vegetables of all kinds, and all of them will be in urgent need of consumption.

“In an effort to help Hai Duong farmers overcome their current difficulties, our group has partnered with agricultural cooperatives in Hai Duong Province to purchase and transport vegetables and agricultural products from Hai Duong to Da Nang for consumption” Khuong said
The vehicles transporting the veggies were disinfected before arriving in Da Nang, Khuong noted
