Work to start in May on new Museum of Da Nang
Work is slated to start on 19 May on the upgrade of the existing 42 Bach Dang facility into the new Museum of Da Nang at a total cost of VND 504 billion (over US$ 22 million) funded by the city budget.
The project’s developer is the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, whilst its manager is the municipal Management Board of Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Projects, and the studioMilou Singapore is the design consultant.
The new museum covers a total area of 8,686m2, consisting facilities at 42 Bach Dang and 31 Tran Phu. The upgrade project will be divided into two stages.
The first stage will focus on demolishing the two -storey building, a parking garage, fences, gates and courtyard at 42 Bach Dang. The second stage of the project will involve dismantling the three-storey building and a one-storey parking garage, as well as refurbishing the existing works.
The relocation of the existing museum out of the Dien Hai citadel site to 42 Bach Dang aims to give space for restoring and embellishing the citadel.
Also, the project will help to provide larger space for the museum in order to satisfy the increasing demand of both locals and visitors for studying, researching and learning about the cultural and historical values of the city, and the central region as a whole.
Also in May, a project to preserve, restore and promote the value of Hai Van Gate relic, which is located at the geographical boundary between Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province, is expected to commence its construction at a cost of about VND 42.1 billion funded by the two localities.
