On Friday, July 23, Da Nang registered 37 new COVID-19 patients, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control reported.

In detail, of the total 37 new patients confirmed in Friday, 32 were the close contacts, 30 of whom were detected during their stay in the city’s designated concentrated quarantine medical establishments, whilst the 2 remaining ones have completed concentrated quarantine and are self-quarantining at home.

In addition, there were 2 infected people who returned by air from HCMC, Viet Nam’s largest COVID-19 epicentre and were put under quarantine at hotels upon their arrival in Da Nang.

There was one case detected from the sampling over those linked to a previously-registered COVID-19 patient in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District.

In particular, a resident hailing from Dien Ban District in the neighbouring province of Quang Nam who visited the Cam Le District Medical Centre on Friday was also confirmed to be positive for the deadly virus. In addition, on the same day, an anesthesiologist from the Department of Surgery at this medical facility tested positive for COVID-19.

In particular, 18 patients detected on Friday were liked to an coronavirus-infected female worker in the Viet Hoa Electronics Company based in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, Lien Chieu District. This infection chain is still very highly transmissible, the local authorities warned.

Since July 10, the total infections recorded in the city have climbed to 362 since July 10 when a local man in Cam Le District’s Hoa Xuan Ward was confirmed contracting the virus after many days of no community transmissions in the city. All of them were linked to the total 23 infection chains, of which 8 are high-risk chains, 6 have been controlled, 3 have not generated new cases, and the remainder are placed at a low risk.

Also on Friday, a total of over 25,300 people across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing.

For the time being, there are over 2,900 primary and more than 4,200 secondary contacts of COVID-19 patients across the city. All of the primary or close contacts are monitored at concentrated quarantine facilities, whilst the secondary contacts are under self-quarantine at their places of residence.

Also on Friday, about VND60 million in fines were imposed on 32 cases for going against COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.
