Heavy rains trigger floods in Central Viet Nam, causing heavy damage

At least 4 persons are missing in floods triggered by heavy rains in Quang Ngai Province, Viet Nam’s National Steering Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue has said.

A total of 44.7 hectares of agricultural crops in Quang Nam Province were damaged and two fishing boats were sunk at Quang Ngai anchorage. In addition, 32 communes in 5 districts and towns in Quang Ngai were under 0.2-1m water and some places including Chau O Town, were 1.5m while 25 communes and wards in 5 districts and towns of Quang Nam province were under 0.1-0.8m water, Tam Thanh Commune, Phu Ninh District was 1.2-2m  under water.

National Highway 1A was partially flooded, a section through Tam Dan Commune, Phu Ninh District, Quang Nam Province, and a section through Chau O Town, Binh Son District, Quang Ngai province were about 0.6m under water. Some areas on the railway section connecting Nui Thanh Station in Quang Nam Province to Tri Binh Station in Quang Ngai Province faced landslides, drift on the roadbed of railways, and flooding, thereby suspending train operations on this section. At Km 76+800 on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, a section through Tam Anh Bac Commune, Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province, soil and rock spilled onto the road, damaging a container truck and its wheels were under about 0.5m mud.

In Da Nang, heavy rainfall caused Vu Gia and Yen rivers to burst their banks but the water has receded slowly sine early morning of October 24. However, some low-lying roads along the river in Hoa Vang and Cam Le districts, Da Nang were flooded.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Disaster Response and Search and Rescue said that no damage has occurred from floods triggered by heavy rainfall.
