Central Viet Nam braces for cold and wet weather

From Monday, November 22, moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are predicted over the parts from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, due to the strong influence of an intense cold front, according to the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. Thunderstorms can produce strong winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes, the regional forecasters warned.

By the coast they will see strong winds at level 5 and the offshore areas could find northeast winds at level 6-7, and the gusts as high as level 8, as well as experience rough seas with waves as high as 2-3 m.

From Monday night, a cold weather snap is predicted for Central Viet Nam, especially in their mountainous areas with temperatures expected to drop to 14-17 degrees Celsius in Quang Binh, 15-19 degrees Celsius in Thua Thien- Hue, 18-21 degrees Celsius in Da Nang and Quang Nam and are likely fall further to 18-20 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas, 20-22 degrees Celsius in Quang Ngai.

The Da Nang Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control and Search and Rescue is urging authorities at local level and relevant agencies to take proactive and necessary mitigation measures in response to northeast winds.

The Da Nang Border Guard Command will work closely with the Da Nang Coastal Information Station to keep owners of vessels operating at sea timely informed about severe weather conditions in order to help them avoid the bad weather.

The Da Nang Border Guard Command will keep a close watch on offshore and inshore vessels in order to organize timely rescue of any person in distress at sea during severe weather.

Authorities at local level must assist their residents to prepare for severe weather in an attempt to keep them safe.

Besides, the heed is paid on providing guidance and advice for construction sites to prepare for severe weather.
