Weather warnings and flood alerts remain across Central Viet Nam as more heavy rainfall continues to hit the region from Sunday into tomorrow, November 15 due to the combined influence of cold air and the upper-tropospheric easterly winds.

Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue across the region, with extremely heavy rain likely in some places.

Between 100mm and180mm of rain is forecast for Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen, with some places expected to receive over 280mm. As much as 60mm -100mm of rain could fall in Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, and even more than 120mm in some places.

There are also warnings of showers, thunderstorms, flooding, lightning strikes, cold winds and hail in Central Highlands and the Southern region.

Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas.

Central Highlands and the Southern region could receive between 20mm and 50 mm rainfall in 24 hours, with up to more than 70 mm in 24 hours possible in some places.

From tomorrow, November 16, the parts from Thua Thien-Hue to Khanh Hoa could be under a level 1 risk as the national forecasters have issued warnings of weather hazards such as heavy rain, lightning, hail, and whirlwinds for these areas.

Today, November 14, due to the influence of weakening cold front, the North of the East Sea (including the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands), will see northeast winds at level 6, and gustiness of level 8, and experience rough seas with waves as high as 2-4m.

The offshore areas stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai could see northeast winds at levels 5 to 6 and the gusts reaching level 7, as well as experience rough seas with waves as high as 2-3m.

The offshore areas stretching from Da Nang to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang , the Gulf of Thailand, the Middle and South of the East Sea, including the waters of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands, could see showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of tornadoes and strong winds at levels 6 to 7 under the influence of a low pressure trough.

Cloudy skies are expected in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue while the rainfall is predicted in some parts of the Northern region, and light to moderate rain in the Southern region with very heavy rain and thunderstorms likely in some places. Thunderstorms can produce strong winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes, the national forecasters warned.

The parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan are expected to see mostly cloudy skies, with moderate to heavy rain with very heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms likely in some places.
