Da Nang’s COVID-19 daily count is now on the rise with 180 new cases confirmed on Thursday  December 9, bringing the city’s total tally to 2,187 since October 16 when the city saw the resurgence of COVID-19 community transmission.

Of special note, Da Nang logged a three-digit community transmission caseload on Thursday with 152, the highest number recorded ever on a single day over recent months and much higher than the figure recorded on Wednesday.

In detail, amongst the 152 community-acquired cases, there were 111 employees working for the Matrix Company testing positive for coronavirus, 14 infections detected via ongoing mass testing for COVID-19 applied to local household representatives, known as the ‘One door- one test’ campaign in the wards of Hoa Minh and Hoa Hiep Bac in Lien Chieu District, and two residents found to be infected with the virus via their rapid antigen tests conducted by themselves.

The remaining community-acquired patients tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 through tests conducted at some medical facilities citywide: nine cases at the Da Nang-based Hospital 199 under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security, three each at the Tam Tri Hospital, the Da Nang Oncology Hospital and the Y Duc Medical Clinic, two at the Thien Phuoc Clinic, and one each at the Cam Le, Lien Chieu and Son Tra medical centres, and the Thien Nhan and Hoa Khanh clinics.

Apart from the detection of 152 aforementioned community infections, the city reported 28 cases found under managed isolation: 26 during at-home quarantine and two in locked-down sites.

In particular, 166 out of the 180 cases were likely to spread to the community, local experts warned.

During the day, there were several high-risk infection chains: Matrix Company with 114 cases), Thuan Phuoc Company with four cases and Vo Truong Toan Street located in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District with five.

Amongst the local districts, Lien Chieu recorded the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Thursday with 94, followed by Hoa Vang with 28, Son Tra with 16 cases, Cam Le with 15, Thanh Khe with 11, Hai Chau with nine and Ngu Hanh Son with one. There were six patients who were returnees from other cities and provinces.

Also on the same day, a combined total of 19,545 local residents across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing, 18,054 of whom tested for the virus via the RT-PCR technique whilst the rest were subject to the rapid antigen testing.

Till date, of the vaccinated people throughout Da Nang, 966.311 have received the first shots of COVID-19 vaccines whilst 881,925 have got the second jabs against the highly contagious disease.

There are currently 219 completely- blockaded residential areas, putting 1,411 households with a combined total of 9,319 people under lockdown.

A combined total of 560 people are being put under compulsory quarantine in 17 centralised facilities.
