Da Nang records new daily high of 442 coronavirus cases on Dec.12

Da Nang logged 442 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, December 12, 106 of which were found in the community, 57 logged at centralised quarantine facilities, 247 during at-home quarantine and the remaining 32 in locked-down residential sites, the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control confirmed.

Among the 106 community-acquired cases, there were eight infections documented at Hai Chau District –based Dong Da Market, four at Hoa Son Market, one each at the Hoa Phuoc and Hoa Cam markets and Lien Chieu District –located Da Son Slaughterhouse, six at the Matrix Company, three each at the Vinatex Company and the Lesgant Company, one at the TTTI Company, eight detected via mass testing rollouts applied to local household representatives, known as the ‘One door- one test’ campaign in An Hai Bac and Tho Quang wards in Son Tra District, Hoa Son Commune in Hoa Vang District and Nam Duong Ward in Hai Chau District, one logged through mass testing conducted onto the staff of restaurants and eateries in Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, and two being returnees from other Vietnamese cities and provinces.

The remaining community-acquired patients were local dwellers who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 through tests conducted at some medical facilities citywide during their visits there for COVID-19 tests or regular medical checkups.

In particular, 316 out of the 442 cases were likely to spread to the community, local experts warned.

During the day, there were several high-risk infection chains: Matrix Company with 65 cases, Thuan Phuoc Company with 17 , Nai Tu 1 area in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District with 12, Phu Thuong village in Hoa Son Commune, Hoa Vang District with 11 and Dong Da with eight. 

Amongst the local districts, Lien Chieu logged the highest number of COVID-19 infections on Sunday with 133, followed by Son Tra with 124, Hoa Vang with 72, Thanh Khe with 52, Cam Le with 30, Hai Chau with 17 and Ngu Hanh Son with five. There were nine patients who were returnees from other cities and provinces.

Also on the same day, a combined total of 15,262 local residents across the city had their nasal swab samples taken for COVID-19 testing, 14,042 of whom tested for the virus via the RT-PCR technique whilst the rest were subject to the rapid antigen testing.

Till date, of the vaccinated people throughout Da Nang, 966,539 have received the first shots of COVID-19 vaccines whilst 896,764 have got two doses against the highly contagious disease.

There are currently 261 completely- blockaded residential areas, putting 1,463 households with a combined total of 9,647 people under lockdown.

A combined total of 466 people are being put under compulsory quarantine in 17 centralised facilities.

Da Nang’s total tally has risen to 3,013 since October 16 when the city saw the resurgence of COVID-19 community transmission, 147 of which were returnees from other cities and provinces nationwide
