Da Nang gears up fighting against crimes in cyberspace

Recently, cybercrime with sophisticatedly criminal acts has been a growing problem due to the extensive use of the internet. Therefore, it is necessary to have a leading force in ensuring national security, social order and safety in cyberspace.

In mid-February 2022, Da Nang Cyber Security and high-tech crime prevention Division made its debut with the principal task of ensuring security and order in cyberspace; at the same time, proactively preventing, detecting, fighting and handling law violations and crimes using high technology to infringe upon national security, social order and safety, legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals. So far, the Division has investigated and clarified numerous criminals, contributing to ensuring political security, social order and safety locally.

Typically, on March 3, the Division coordinated with the Criminal Police Department to agency served the decision to prosecute the accused against Nguyen Thi Anh (born in 1991) and Le Thi Binh (born in 1991), both residing in Krong Pac District, Dak Lak Province, on the crime of "illegal trading of bank accounts" under Clause 2, Article 291 of the Penal Code.

These individuals bought and sell bank accounts, creating conditions for scammers to take advantage of cyberspace and use high technology to fraudulently obtain property and carry out other criminal activities, causing many difficulties for the police force during tracing.

On the afternoon of February 16,  Da Nang Cyber Security and high-tech crime prevention Division coordinated with the Criminal Police Department to arrest Pham Van Son (born in  1987, a native of Thanh Mien District, Hai Duong Province) for using the internet to defraud and appropriate property.

Son downloaded photos of some personal identification papers on the internet, and then asked his wife, a bank employee, to sign the declaration to open three accounts. After using the above three accounts to receive fraudulent cash flows, Son's wife completed procedures to lock the accounts. Through initial inspection and verification, more than 60 victims transferred relatively large amounts of money to the three accounts.

In addition to the above activities, the Division also actively cooperates with other agencies, units and localities to focus on propagandizing online criminal tricks so that people raise their vigilance and do not let scammers appropriate assets.

According to Major General Vu Xuan Vien, Director of the Da Nang Municipal Police, the establishment of Da Nang Cyber Security and high-tech crime prevention Division is an important and meaningful milestone, contributing to ensuring national security and protecting social order and safety in cyberspace, in tandem with joining hands with other forces of the municipal police to complete their tasks, maintain political stability, bring peace and happiness to local citizens.

“The municipal Police has directed the Cyber Security and high-tech crime prevention Division to continue closely monitoring the actual situation, especially emerging and complex issues in cyberspace from the perspective of State management of information security such as dissemination of values ethical deviation, risks from activities leading public opinion, especially fake news, network campaigns, online interactions, various types of "network communication"; activities using cyberspace to commit fraud, commit criminal acts for careful consideration and evaluation. Thereby, there will be opinions to advise the municipal Police, Party Committees and authorities on appropriate and timely solutions to better perform the State management role in security and order in cyberspace," said Major General Vu Xuan Vien.
