At an urgent online meeting with localities on responding to recent consecutive earthquakes in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum, the Director General of the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control cum Deputy Head of the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention Tran Quang Hoai proposed the Institute of Geophysics to review the earthquake and tsunami warning system in localities across the country.

Accordingly, sight should be set on 54 points that automatically monitor and monitor earthquakes and tsunamis, as well as strengthen the provision of information quickly when earthquakes occur.

It is a need for the Kon Tum Province localities to regularly guide people on measures to prevent, avoid and minimise damage triggered by unexpected earthquakes and proactively respond to and control information to avoid false information that stirs up confusion for the people.

The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control shall coordinate with the Institute of Geophysics to urgently find out the causes and risks of the recent earthquakes in order to put up signs and give timely warnings.

Guidance documents for response, especially the early assessment of earthquake risks in the coming time should be released so that specific response plans and scenarios are mapped out to ensure people's ultimate safety.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics, from the beginning of 2022 up to now, there have been dozens of earthquakes in Kon Tum Province. This agency has set up an additional observation station to learn more about this phenomenon.

As reported that 18 consecutive earthquakes that occurred in Kon Tum in April 2022 are all provocative earthquakes.

The earthquake area was located on an active fault zone called Rao Quan - A Luoi extending from Laos through A Luoi in Thua Thien-Hue Province to Quy Nhon in Binh Dinh Province. On this fault zone, stimulant earthquakes have been recorded in some localities, especially in Quang Nam when hydroelectric reservoirs accumulate water for power generation.
