This summer, the Son Tra Peninsula in Son Tra District, Da Nang has drawn many tourists and local residents coming |
In early April, roads leading to the Son Tra Peninsula have been always hectic with loads of motorbikes and cars. Besides, a lot of people have gathered along Hoang Sa Street and routes to the peninsula to sightseeing, take pictures and feed monkeys. Some people also climb on dangerous high cliffs or areas close to the sea, all causing traffic insecurity and accidents.
In addition, in some areas having beautiful views such as Bai Chay, Green Lake or along the road to the top of Ban Co Peak, there are some groups of people taking pictures, camping, eating, drinking, or even throwing cigarettes butts indiscriminately.
On top of that, many people have still burned and littered the roads on the peninsula although there are many signs prohibiting these actions. After preparing food, some groups of people even leave burning charcoal intact which emits a lot of smoke and is easily blown by the wind, easily causing vegetation to burn and spread into the forest.
According to Mr Tran Thang, Head of the Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son Forest Ranging Department, functional forces have implemented a host of synchronous solutions for forest management and protection, so the number of vegetable fires on the Son Tra Peninsula has minimized.
However, there are still many tourists going into the forest areas to camp, picnic and make fires to prepare food, both having the risk of forest fires and the safety of visitors.
Therefore, to solve these situations, and proactively prevent and strictly handle acts of encroachment on forest resources, the Steering Committee for the implementation of the sustainable forestry development strategy of Son Tra district has implemented some specific measures.
Accordingly, the district strictly protects the forest resources of Son Tra Nature Reserve; harmoniously manages forest resources, conserves nature combined with eco-tourism; encourages the participation of the whole society in forest protection and development; continues to well implement the motto "4 on the spot" in forest fire prevention and fighting.
“The Da Nang Forest Protection Department has just established a quick response team for forest fire prevention and fighting, including one team directly operating in the Son Tra Nature Reserve. Moreover, citywide forces have coordinated to organize regular and irregular inspections in order to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle acts of encroachment on the forest, "said Mr Tran Thang.
As shared by Vice Chairwoman of Tho Quang Ward’s People's Committee Le Thi Kim Thuong, there are still some people who sneak into the forest to collect cane and leaves, burn coal, and set traps to hunt wild animals.
The ward has coordinated with forces to strengthen patrols and inspect acts of forest encroachment from the beginning of April 2022; coordinate with the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Tourist Beaches to handle a number of tourist groups setting up tents to stay overnight in Bai Chay and Green Lake.
The locality has identified the management and protection of forests fire prevention and fighting on the Son Tra Peninsula as one of the key tasks, especially in the dry season.
Deputy head of the management board of Son Tra peninsula and tourist beaches Phan Minh Hai said that it is necessary to develop sanctions to punish violations when visiting here; barricade the entrances to spontaneous tourist sites in order to build the Son Tra Peninsula into a safe venue for local people and tourists.
At the same time, the traffic police forces have to increase patrolling, reminding and handling cases of traffic violations on roads on the peninsula.
