In his remarks at the commendation ceremony, Chairman Chinh praised Da Nang’s police officers for their efforts in cracking down on crime over the past time. The city leader took the opportunity to encourage officers to continue their efforts to resolutely handle criminal cases.

Mr Chinh stated that criminals have become more sophisticated and deformed in their methods while they have taken advantage of legal loopholes to carry out illegal activities. Hence, he highlighted the need for officers to be more proactive to early detect criminal intentions in order to ensure security and safety in the city.

Earlier on May 13, Da Nang’s police officers worked with the Drug-related Crime Investigation Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security along with their colleagues in Quang Binh Province to urgently arrest two men for illegal drug trafficking by air from Germany into Da Nang. As a result, officers seized a total of 8,500 ecstasy pills weighing 3.35 kg in total, 50 rosehip tablets, 50 grams of ketamine, 10 grams of meth, a roller gun and 56 rubber bullets. It is a transnational criminal case and it is the largest amount of drugs ever detected in Da Nang. Currently, the city police still make further investigation on this criminal case.

On May 19, Da Nang’s police officers continued to break an organised group that faciliated illegal entry into Viet Nam from foreign countries. Accordingly, one Vietnamese person was arrested while 7 foreigners were temporarily detained. Allegations are currently under investigation by the city’s police.
