Rain set to lash parts of Mid-central region on Sunday, temperature likely to drop

North Central Coast and Mid-central region, including Da Nang, may be in for some respite from the scorching summer heat this weekend, as unseasonal rainfall activity has been forecast in these areas.

As per Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a cold front that is moving toward the south of Viet Nam may influence the meteorological conditions in North Central Coast and Mid-central region.

Accordingly, moderate to heavy rain are to be expected in North Central Coast and Mid-central region, including Da Nang, from Sunday afternoon into Monday, May 16 with extremely heavy rain likely in some places.

There are also warnings of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, high winds, tornadoes and hail in these areas. Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas in the region, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas. The advisory urges residents to ‘be aware’ of inclement weather. Local residents are advised to get ready for such weather conditions in an attempt to reduce the risk of possible damages.

From Sunday, these wet and cloudy conditions will also lead to a drop in daytime temperatures to 27-31 degree Celsius in North Central Coast and Mid-central region, including Da Nang.

Cold temperatures are expected to strike the northern region and North Central Coast from Sunday, May 15 as temperatures are predicted to drop to 20 to 22 degrees Celsius, and even 17 to 19 degrees Celsius in their mountainous areas.

From Sunday afternoon, May 15, by the coastal areas they will see high winds at level 3 to 4, and farther inland you could find northeast winds at level 3.

From late Sunday afternoon, the Gulf of Tonkin could see northeasterly winds at level 6, and gustiness of levels 7 to 8, and experience rough seas with waves as high as 2m -3m.

From Monday, May 16, the Northern East Sea and the offshore areas stretching from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai, including Da Nang, will northeasterly winds at levels 6 to 7, and the gusts reaching level 8. The Northern East Sea could experience rough seas with waves as high as 2-4m.

Furthermore, the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue are expected to witness some wet weather on Saturday during late afternoon and night hours. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 31-34 degrees Celsius, even above 35 degrees Celsius in some places while minimum temperature will be in the range of 24-27 degrees Celsius.

Today, scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan during the late afternoon and night hours. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius and highs of 31 to 34 degrees Celsius, even above 35 degrees Celsius in some places.

The forecast has indicated the possibility of showers and thunderstorms at isolated locations in Central Highlands during late afternoon and night hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 30-33 degrees Celsius and 20-23 degrees Celsius.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds, national forecasters warned.
