There are three weeks left until the Mid-Autumn Festival 2022, but the moon cake market has been getting bustling. As noted by our reporters, moon cakes of popular brands like Kinh Do, Huu Nghi and Richy are on sale in the most crowded areas in Da Nang in order to meet the shopping demand of customers for the upcoming festival.

The prices of finished moon cakes this year have increased by 10-15% compared to the same period last year due to a hike in the prices of such input materials as flour and cooking oil.

In particular, most of the selling prices of moon cakes have risen by VND1,000 - VND4,000 each soft cake and by VND5,000 - VND10,000 each baked cake.

On the market, traditional moon cakes are being sold at the prices of between VND41,000 and VND65,500 each soft cake, and between VND54,000 and VND79,000 each baked cake. Meanwhile, the prices of moon cakes with high-class fillings such as cordyceps, abalone and bird's nest range from VND140,000 - VND800,000 VND each.

Aside from improving the quality of cakes, moon cake producers have been focusing on packaging design. The cake packaging boxes are diverse and eye-catching, combining unique forms and designs.

Currently, moon cake producers have launched high-end products with prices ranging from VND560,000 to VND4.9 million/box.

Specifically, a box of four Momiji Lava moon cakes is priced at VND500,000, a box of six Thanh Nguyet Trac Tuyet moon cake and attached O long tea gift package at VND1.9 million, a box of seven Phuc Thinh moon cakes and attached O long tea gift package at VND2.5 million, and a Son Mai box of six cakes at VND4.9 million.

Ms. Le Thi Hoai, residing in Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District, said that this year, her family buys moon cakes earlier than usual and the number of orders is also higher to present her partners and family members.

According to Ms. Hoai, this year's moon cakes are quite diverse in types and prices, so buyers have many choices. In addition, different types of vegan cakes have been launched at the prices ranging from VND65,000 - VND87,000 each.

Homemade moon cake producers, meanwhile, make smaller cakes and sell them at lower prices from tens of thousand to several hundred thousand of VND for each cake.

“This year, we believe that the moon cake market will be more bustling than previous years, so the cake stalls open earlier than usual. After 2 years of being quiet because of COVID-19 the moon cake brands that have returned to the market have almost overcome the disadvantages of previous years such as poor design and limitations in product flavour”, said Ms. Pham Nguyen Hoang Quyen, the owner of a stall selling Kinh Do moon cakes on Dien Bien Phu Street.

Despite the diverse moon cake market, customers are recommended to be careful when choosing mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival, especially avoid buying products of unknown origin, because there are many new and unknown cakes on the market.
