For more than 6 years now, people living on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Thanh Khe District, have become too familiar with the image of female environmental service worker Tu Thi Thong diligently collecting garbage every day. Despite the hard, even dangerous nature of her work, Ms Thong has always made efforts and dedication to successfully completing her tasks.

As shared by Ms Thong, she graduated from college with a degree in accounting, but life brought her to a job as a sweeper by accident. At first, she just thought of working temporarily to wait for another job in the first days of living in Da Nang; however, unexpectedly, she has stuck with it until now.

“From 5 am to 6 pm on a daily basis, my mission is to clean the streets on a distance of 4 to 5km until it is clean and tidy, and I occasionally work overtime all night when asked. I have always tried to fulfil the work that has been assigned, otherwise, the amount of garbage will be a backlog, causing a loss of urban beauty of a tourist city,” shared Ms Thong.

She believes that every profession has its hardships, so when you decide to choose it, just try to do it well and you will get commensurate results. Thanks to her gentleness, hard work and willingness to help others, she is widely loved by people living and trading on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street. Sometimes, they call her a glass of beverage to drink when it is hot, or give her a raincoat or a temporary resting place when it rains.

As for the environmental sanitation profession, many people think that this job is simple and easy, but in fact, this is a rather risky profession. During the peak time of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Thong and her colleagues always tried their utmost to complete the assigned tasks with many achievements recognized and appreciated by the company.

According to Mr Tran Minh Hien, Vice Captain of Environment Team No. 1, Thanh Khe Environmental Enterprise, although she has not been in the profession for a long time, Ms Thong is a responsible worker and has a serious attitude at work. Over the past years, not only has she always completed her tasks well, but she has also actively participated in many activities launched by the enterprise.

"Working as a sanitation worker, I feel joyful whenever I see clean and beautiful streets after every working day because I have made a small contribution to the beauty of Da Nang. For me, as long as I am healthy, I will continue to stick with this profession," expressed Ms Tu Thi Thong.
