The Da Nang Department of Information and Communications has fined a journalist for posting fake news about Da Nang's tourism development policy.

Journalist L.D.T was fined VND7.5 million for posting information about Da Nang’s proposal to open a ‘red-light district’ to stimulate tourism demand, along with some sensitive photos on his own Facebook page on July 24, 2022.

The information has caused quite a stir among the public about the city’s tourism development policies and orientations.

Regarding this Facebook-posted article, the municipal Department of Tourism confirmed that the agency does not have any proposal or orientation on opening a ‘red-light district’ in the city in order to stimulate tourism demand in its tourism development projects over the past time, and in its freshly-revealed orientations for local tourism development by 2030, with a vision to 2045.

In the face of untrue information, negatively affecting the city’s security and order, and its socio-economic development, the municipal Department of Information and Communications in coordination with other relevant authorities to make a record of administrative violation for L.D.T.

The journalist admitted the post was wrong and unverified information. He was then forced to delete the post on his Facebook.
