Low pressure area formed in East Sea

A Low Pressure Area (LPA) has formed in the East Sea, Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) has announced.

In its latest bulletin, the National Weather Service said that at 1:00am on Monday, the LPA was already located at latitude 17°5'N-18°5'N and longitude 118°5'E- 119°5'E.

The combined effects of the LPA and the southwest monsoon will bring strong showers and thunderstorms to the East Sea (including waters of Truong Sa and Hoang Sa Islands) during daytime and night hours on Monday, August 15. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, and strong winds at levels 7 to 8 in the warning areas, meteorologists at NCHMF said.

Under these conditions, the LPA is likely to continue bringing the threat of thundery rain over the East Sea in one or two days.

Today, showers and thunderstorms are predicted in isolated locations in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue during the late afternoon and night hours while Thanh Hoa –Nghe An will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to hover around 32-37 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature will be in the range of 24-27 degrees Celsius.

Sunshine is forecast on Monday for most parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan with the chance of showers and thunderstorms during late afternoon and night hours at isolated places in the southern part of the region. Temperatures in these areas can expect lows of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius and highs of 32 to 35 degrees Celsius, even above 35 degrees Celsius in some places.

The forecast has indicated the possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms over Central Highlands during later afternoon and evening hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 28-31 degrees Celsius, even above 31 degrees Celsius in some places, and 20-23 degrees Celsius, respectively.

There are weather warnings for strong gusty winds and tornadoes, lightning, hail for these areas.
