In recent times, it is not uncommon in Da Nang for local residents to receive lost items and return them to their owners, or to do good deeds that leave good feelings in the hearts of other people.

1. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh residing in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District has accidentally picked up a wallet dropped in the middle of the aisle in the clothing selling area in the Con Market. At that time, she has found that the wallet contained many important personal papers under the name of N.V.L, 25, whose hometown is Trieu Trach Commune, Trieu Lang District, Quang Tri Province.

Ms. Hanh has actively stayed at the market for 30 minutes to wait the wallet owner to come back but she didnot see anyone. Therefore, she has decided to post the information relating to the dropped wallet on her personal Facebook page, and the ‘Da Nang people’ fanpage. Just in a short time, the owner of the wallet contacted Ms. Hanh to get back his lost wallet.

Over the past time, a lot of similar information has been posted on the ‘Da Nang People’ Facebook page with nearly 80,000 members.

Through the connection between strangers, those who lost their property and those who picked up dropped property have met each other in cyberspace to spread kindness and a civilised lifestyle.

Tran Thi Hong Hanh temporarily residing in An Hai Bac Ward, Son Tra District said that she once left her backpack containing her purse and cell phone on her motorbike when going shopping at the Son Tra Night Market. When she remembered, she went back to her motorbike to search for but couldn't find it.

After a while, a middle-aged man approached from afar and asked if this backpack was hers. The man said that when he and his wife went for a stroll near the night market, they saw the backpack being hung in front of the motorbike. Then, they decided to stand beside the motorcycle to guard the backpack because they were afraid of bad guys.

After about 30 minutes, no one was seen coming back. He and his wife took the backpack to a nearby stone bench to wait.

“I never thought there would be such enthusiastic people in this world. Just thinking about the mid-aged couple standing there to guard my backpack makes me so grateful” Hanh said happily.

2. Ms. Le Thi Thuy residing in Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District said that while living at 354 Tran Cao Van, she felt lucky to be a neighbour with a woman named Nguyen Thi Vinh. In addition to her benevolent and aggressive heart in community activities, Ms. Vinh does not hold grudges with anyone.

Especially, over the past 12 years, Ms. Vinh has wholeheartedly taken care of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dich (commonly known as Mrs. Tiep) who has no relatives and no refuge not far from her house.

She regularly gives Mrs. Tiep 3 meals a day regardless of the day or night, rain or sunny. This is what makes us love and respect her very much, said Mrs. Thuy.

3. After 10 years of operation, Mr. Trinh Dinh Thang's free reading room located in An Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District has welcomed hundreds of children in Tan Hoa residential area.

Mr. Thang’s idea of providing a free reading space for children was cherished as he studied in Japan.

Mr. Thang said that during his stay in Japan, he often saved money from his scholarships and part-time jobs to buy books and send them to disadvantaged children at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School based in Thanh Khe District.

After returning home and working at the Da Nang branch of the Dong Du Japanese Language School, in the summer of 2012, Mr. Thang built a free reading room at his home at 205/17 Tran Thai Tong Street.

All books in the reading room are purchased and arranged directly by him. In busy days, Mr. Thang asks his mother, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuc, to directly look after and open the door to welcome the children in the neighborhood. In front of the gate, he carefully writes down his phone number so that any child who wanted to read books can contact him.

Sometimes, Mr. Thang also organises small games to test the children's reading ability and knowledge acquisition ability.

“My reading room has become a frequent destination for many children, especially during summer school holiday or on weekends. I don't think I'm doing anything big thing, I just hope children have a place to read books free-of-charge to improve their knowledge and awareness in their future behavior” said Thang.
