For a green, clean and beautiful city

In September, the Da Nang Management Board for Infrastructure Construction and Urban Development Investment Projects together with the SEEN Engineering JSC and the Saigon Transportation Mechanical One Member Company Limited (SAMCO) completed the construction of a garbage transfer station in Son Tra District.

The station’s pressing capacity reaches 200 tonnes/day. The station features two closed garbage pressing systems, one automatic car wash system, one bulky waste crushing system, one deodorizing system, one wastewater treatment system, four hooklift trucks, and nine large sealed garbage containers.

The SEEN Engineering JSC and SAMCO companies have completed the construction of the garbage transfer station on Le Thanh Nghi Street, Hai Chau District, with a maximum capacity of 485 tonnes/ day.

“The construction of the garbage transfer stations on Le Thanh Nghi Street and in Son Tra District contributes to making Da Nang cleaner and more beautiful, towards an ecological city in the time to come” said Mr. Dang Que Hung, a representative of the consortium of SEEN - SAMCO contractors.

Over recent years, SAMCO has provided Da Nang with many small, environmentally friendly garbage collection vehicles that are suitable for many small roads and alleys with heavy traffic in the city.

Meanwhile, SEEN has constructed and provided many advanced wastewater treatment technologies for the Phu Loc, Ngu Hanh Son, Son Tra wastewater treatment stations, especially the Khanh Son leachate treatment station, thereby helping the city well resolve wastewater and leachate problems.

“The Phu Loc River is no longer polluted like before. This is the motivation for us to continue to build environmental protection works to make the city more clean, beautiful and livable in the near future”, said Director of the SEEN Engineering JSC Pham Van Thuan.

Like SEEN and SAMCO, the Da Nang-based DACINCO Investment and Construction Co., Ltd., has been active in implementing many environmental protection projects in the city, particularly the water environment improvement project to the east of Son Tra District, and the wastewater collection pipeline installation project along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.

The company has invested in machinery and equipment for underground jacking, and it has become the first enterprise in Viet Nam to construct a wastewater collection system with new technology to help speed up construction progress and limit the demolition of transportation and infrastructure works.

All resources mobilized to build an environmentally friendly city

Over the past years, the business community and local dwellers have joined efforts with the municipal government to protect environment, classify waste at source, take care of trees, and effectively carry out the 'Green, Clean and Beautiful Sundays' movement.

The municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment has also raised more than VND70 billion from more than 10 domestic and foreign organizations to implement 13 environmental protection programmes and projects in the city. These organizations include the Japan-based Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

In an effort to turn itself into an international-scale eco, modern and smart urban area with its own identity, Da Nang has issued the 'Building Da Nang into an Environmentally-friendly City' project for the 2021 - 2030 period.

The project features 31 criteria, and 51 tasks, projects and works with a total implementation cost of up to VND15,546 billion.

Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment To Van Hung said that Da Nang has received special support from relevant agencies, especially international and non-governmental organizations, in building it into an environmentally friendly city.

Most notably, the city has received the great companionship of Yokohama, a Japan’s model city about environmental protection, which has a lot of practical experience and effective solutions to bring about a harmonious combination of economic development and ecological environment maintenance.

Mr. To Van Hung expresses his hope that the city will continue receiving greater support from departments, agencies, socio-political organizations, and partners to help it realize its target of becoming an environmentally friendly city towards eco-city through specific, effective and practical actions in rational use of resources, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable production and consumption.
