Donate Blood, Save Lives!
Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, Hai Chau District has witnessed a meaningful model of "Warm Blood Bank" donating blood to save lives at all times. Whenever receiving a phone call informing the need for help from the people and hospitals, the police officers of the ward immediately set out to help with the motto " “every drop of blood gives away, a life stay”.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Cao Le Duy Hung, Chief of Police of Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, who directly runs the "Warm Blood Bank" model, the idea of the model was cherished by him many years ago, but it was not until March 2022 that the new model was officially established. To date, the model has 60 registered members.
“I myself have over 20 years of experience in blood donation and have witnessed many times the pain of people suffering from traffic accidents, or blood cancer. Therefore, I understand the importance of blood donation to save people," said Lieutenant Colonel Cao Le Duy Hung.
Regularly, police officers in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward take turns giving platelets when needed to a 9-year-old child named Do Hoang Bao Tran, who has blood cancer and needs regular platelet transfusions. Not only did the police officers give platelets to the child, but they also regularly paid visits, encouraged her to be more optimistic and gave meaningful gifts to help her overcome difficulties in life.
“Tran's age is about the same as my child's age, so I consider her as my daughter. I felt very sorry as seeing her staying in the hospital. That's why I'm always ready when Tran needs help," said Captain Tau Viet Chung.
As stated by Captain Dang Quoc Bao, a police officer in Hoa Thuan Dong Ward, it is the meaningful "Hot Blood Bank" that helps a host of cases of people suffering seriously ill or in critical accidents. Over the years, he has donated blood to save lives dozens of times. Particularly, since the beginning of 2022, he has donated 3 times blood group B (rare group) to people in need.
When referring to the special blood donation during days when COVID-19 was complicated, Captain Bao shared that while on duty at the office, he received news that a patient with COVID-19 at the Da Nang Lung Hospital was in a critical condition and urgently needed 1 unit of blood group B platelets. Then, he reported to consult the unit commander, proposed to arrange for another comrade to be on duty, and immediately went to the hospital to donate blood. “At that time, I just wanted to get to the hospital quickly, because I would miss the "golden" time to save the victim from the crisis if I was late, "Captain Dang Quoc Bao added.
Till date, 100% of ward-based police officers are members of the "Hot Blood Bank" model, including many soldiers who have donated blood more than 10 times. “I hope that the model can link and coordinate with numerous agencies and units to participate to continue to replicate and develop the model so that there will be more blood units, especially rare blood to help more people”, emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Cao Le Duy Hung.
