Since early Wednesday morning, most parts of Da Nang, including Cam Le, Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, Ngu Hanh Son, Hai Chau and Hoa Vang districts have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall. The potential for localized heavy rain will continue in Da Nang through this weekend with shower and thunderstorm chances.

On Wednesday, showers with thunderstorms at most places with heavy rainfall at isolated places during the afternoon and evening hours are likely over the parts from Da Nang to Binh Thuan, Central Highlands and the Southern region under the influence of intensifying continental tropical low-pressure systems, according to Viet Nam’s National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF). Localized rainfall accumulations could reach 20mm to 40mm, and localized accumulations in excess of 70mm in a 24 hour period are possible today.

Thundery showers will stay in the forecast for these areas over next few days.

Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds in the warning areas. Forecasters have also issued warnings of flash floods and landslides for mountainous areas in the affected parts, and localized flooding alerts are in place in low-lying and riverside areas.

NCHMF also indicates the possibility of a tropical cyclone to be formed over the East Sea from September 24 to 27.

Today, the national weather forecasters issued a warning for showers and thunderstorms for the Gulf of Tonkin, the middle and southern part of the East Sea (including the waters of the Truong Sa Islands), the offshore areas stretching from Binh Dinh to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand. Thunderstorms can produce tornadoes, and strong winds at levels 7 to 8 in the warning areas, meteorologists at the National Weather Service said.

Warning for thunderstorms and high winds remains in place over the sea over the next several days.
