The statement was made by Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen at a ceremony in Da Nang on Saturday morning to celebrate World Children's Day. The event was co-organised by the municipal People's Committee and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Viet Nam.

Vice Chairwoman Yen remarked, over recent years, Da Nang has paid special attention to effectively implementing child protection, care and education programmes, as well as mainstreaming children-related goals into the city’s master development policies and plans. As a result, local children are guaranteed basic rights and conditions of protection, and cared and educated comprehensively.

On the occasion of World Children's Day (November 20) in 2022, the Rong (Dragon) Bridge is lit up in the orange colour from November 25 - December 15 in response to the 16-day global campaign of action to end violence against women and children.

“The action is as a way to demonstrate the city’s commitment to creating a safe city free of violence against women and girls, show its desire to light up the love for children in everyone's heart and replicate these practical and humane actions for all children” emphasized Mrs. Yen.

World Children's Day is celebrated every year on 20 November to commemorate the adoption of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 1989 to promote the rights of all children.

This year, World Children's Day coincides with the opening of the World Cup 2022. Therefore, the municipal People's Committee in collaboration with UNICEF organised a football exchange tournament with the aim to spread the power of sports for children's development.

On this occasion, UNICEF highlighted two key messages about children: promoting the importance of sports for girls and boys, boosting inclusion, and building skills, capacity, confidence and mental health for children and young people. All Vietnamese people join the football tournament to voice their support to bring childhood back to every child.
