Da Nang residents send donations to Turkey and Syria for earthquake relief efforts
The Da Nang Red Cross Society held on Thursday a meeting to review Tet 2023 Charity Movement and launch a new campaign to support the people of Turkey and Syria affected by the devastating earthquake.

It was reported that, under the Tet 2023 Charity Movement, from January 1 to February 16, associations at all levels made appeals for public donations and awarded more than 33,200 gifts worth nearly VND 16.7 billion to disadvantaged people across the city. Also, highly-meaningful Tet programmes for people in difficult circumstances such as a charity Tet fair and the ‘Spring for Children’.
This was the first year that the movement had been deployed in the city, timely helpping to ensure a cozy Tet festival for the disadvantaged.
Outstandingly, from March 1 to May 30, the local departments, organisations, armed forces, benefactors and residents across the city are now encouraged to make donations to Turkey and Syria on a voluntary basis in order to partly help the people of these two countries overcome the consequences of the earthquake.
As of 20 March 2023, more than 57,300 deaths were confirmed in the earthquake, more than 50,000 of which were reported in Turkey, and the remainder were in Syria. It is the deadliest worldwide since the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the fifth-deadliest of the 21st century.
