Preparing conditions to put Hoa Lien Water Plant into operation in April

Along with carrying out the acceptance procedures and handing over the Hoa Lien Water Plant to a public non-business unit in March, 2023, relevant agencies are also urgently carrying out many related tasks in order to soon put the water plant into operation.

Ready to ensure clean water supply

The VND 1,170 billion Hoa Lien Water Plant project features the main items of construction of a spillway to collect water on Cu De River to exploit raw water with a Phase 1 capacity of of 120,000m3/day; a  raw water pumping station with a capacity of 120,000m3/day in Phase 1; a raw water transmission pipeline with a diameter of 1.4m with the operating capacity of 120,000m3 /day in Phase 1 and a capacity of 240,000m3 /day in Phase 2; a water treatment plant with a capacity of 120,000m3/day in Phase 1 and a capacity of 240,000m3/day in Phase 2.

Work commenced on the whole project on March 25, 2020 and completed on September 30, 2022.

As reported by Deputy Director of the Da Nang Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects Luong Thach Vy, the spillway, raw water pumping station, raw water pipelines and water treatment plant in Phase 1 have been tested to ensure capacity in accordance with design requirements.

The quality of clean water after treatment that has been tested by the Quality Assurance and Testing Centre 2 (QUATEST 2) meets the clean water standards for domestic use as prescribed in the National Technical Regulations on Water Quality. Quality of clean water used for domestic purposes QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT issued by the Ministry of Health.

The first stage of the Hoa Lien Water Plant project with a capacity of 120,000m3/day will provide additional clean water for Da Nang, especially for the districts of Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, Hai Chau, Son Tra and Hoa Vang, thereby contributing to ensuring adequate water supply for residents' daily lives, agriculture and industrial production in the city.

Expected to operate in early April 2023

The Da Nang People's Committee has approved the plan to direct the Urban Infrastructure Management Centre to operate the Hoa Lien Water Plant. The municipal Department of Construction will preside over and coordinate with other departments, agencies and sectors to advise the municipal administration to approve the specific exploitation method.

Pending approval, in order to put the water plant into operation in early April, the Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company will be assigned to operate temporarily the plant as soon as it is eligible for operation.

It is expected that in the first phase, the plant will be put into operation with a water supply capacity of 60,000m3/day. General Director of Da Nang Water Supply JSC Ho Minh Nam said that the company has prepared human resources to temporarily operate the plant according to the proposal made by of the Department of Construction.

Currently, the highest water supply capacity for the whole city is about 330,000 m3/day provided by the Da Nang Water Supply JSC, which is mainly exploited from Cam Le River, Luong Stream, Da Stream, and Hoa Trung and Green lakes.

With the water supply capacity of the Hoa Lien Water Plant, water supply for the city will be supplemented and ensured, especially when the demand for water increases, the water source of Cam Le River is contaminated with salt, the Cam Le River is affected by the intrusion of saline water, and the water level on the Yen River, streams and lakes are reduced in the upcoming dry season.
