Da Nang woman makes her mark with environmental protection initiatives

For nearly 14 years implementing the task of advising on environmental protection management, Ms. Vo Thi Kim Ngan, an expert from Hai Chau District Office of Natural Resources and the Environment, has many initiatives and solutions that have been recognized and brought to fruition.

Working in Hai Chau District since 2009 and being arranged to work in accordance with her major, Ms. Ngan has more favourable conditions to demonstrate her ability, expertise and expertise.

Over the past time, she and her colleagues have enthusiastically participate in many programmes and plans to carry out key tasks in the field of environment such as organising to environmental protection movements and building up models, domestic solid waste sorting at source, limiting the use of plastic items.

The active public servant has joined the project ‘Building Hai Chau District into Environmentally-friendly District’ in the 2021 - 2030 period.

Ngan's initiatives and solutions to protect the environment have been recognised and applied effectively in the district in recent years. Specifically, the solution ‘Design and install publicity posters with movable wheels to shield temporary garbage collection points along streets’ to ensure urban beauty and environmental sanitation in the district has been implemented since 2015. 

Till date, the solution has contributed to ensuring urban beauty, limiting the overload of garbage collection and pollution spots.

With a passion for research, Ngan came up with an idea to organise a video clip design contest to raise awareness about environmental protection in order to innovate communication methods and increase the participation of mass organizations in residential areas, thereby promoting initiatives, good practices, and new models.

As assessed by Hai Chau District People's Committee, the initiatives and solutions of Ms. Vo Thi Kim Ngan are new and all of them have been applied effectively in the district, significantly contributing to improving the efficiency of the State management of environmental protection.

As an expert with many years of experience in the environment, Ngan is highly appreciated for her role in mobilizing and gather many resources in society to participate in environmental protection work.

For example, in order to implement a methodical and large-scale implementation of domestic solid waste sorting at source until 2025 in an active response to the municipal administration. Ngan suggested the district’s administration to guide all of the 13 wards join at-source garbage classification campaign.

It is worth praising that after nearly 4 years of implementation, a total of VND 2.6 billion was generated from the sales of about 868 tonnes of recycled waste across the district. The money was used for social welfare activities in residential areas.

Sharing about her work, Ngan said: “In my professional work, besides participating in effectively handling the feedbacks of voters about environmental pollution, I also participate in inspecting and guiding business and service establishments to comply wih relevant regulations on environmental protection and advising on strict handling of violations within my authority”.

With her dedication at work, Ngan was awarded certificates of merit from the Chairman of Hai Chau District People's Committee for her excellent achievements in the patriotic emulation movement in the 2015 - 2020 period as well as her active participation in environmental protection and climate change risk mitigation in the 2016- 2020 period in the district.

The woman is now looking forward to being honoured with a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee for the Da Nang Environment Award in 2022.
