The Da Nang Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defence has urged local relevant agencies and authorities at local level to take mitigation measures to cope with heatwave conditions that are prevailing over Central Viet Nam, including Da Nang.

Extreme heat put residents in the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien- Hue under heat warnings and advisories on Monday and Tuesday, according to Viet Nam’s National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting. The maximum temperature in these areas is expected to touch 35-37 degree Celsius, and even above 38 degree Celsius at isolated locations. Lowest humidity is likely to record at 35-50 per cent.

Meanwhile, a localised heatwave is likely to engulf the northwestern region and the parts from Da Nang to Phu Yen. These areas will sizzle on Monday and Tuesday as the mercury may rise above 36 degrees Celsius at isolated locations, with 34 to 36 degrees Celsius expected to be common across these areas. Lowest humidity is likely to record at 40-55 per cent.

The national weather service has predicted the prevailing heatwave conditions in the northwestern region and the parts from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien- Hue to continue through Wednesday, April 5. After that, the weather will likely to become more pleasant in these areas.

Cloudy skies are on the forecast for Da Nang on Monday and Tuesday but and no rainfall is likely. Maximum temperatures in the city are expected to hover around 32-33 degrees Celsius. Low clouds will give way to sun in the city on Wednesday, April 5 with the maximum temperature expected to touch 35 degrees Celsius.

The combined effects of hot and low humidity conditions along with high winds blowing from the southwest pose an increased fire or explosion risk in residential areas in Central Viet Nam. In addition, the extreme heat, coupled with drought conditions across much of Central Viet Nam, help fuel wildfires in the region.

Persistent soaring temperatures can lead to illnesses such as dehydration and even heatstroke. Health experts said residents in the warning region should try to stay cool and drink plenty of water.
