Tamanu flowers in full bloom along Han River
From time immemorial, tamanu trees are often known for a significant source of timber and medicinal use. The trees grow naturally in rural areas. However, in the city, tamanu trees are among in the list of trees planted on the streets.

The trees, whose scientific name is Calophyllum inophyllum L., are blossoming along the extended Bach Dang Street.
Since 2014, the municipal government has decided to add tamanu trees to the list of green trees for making splendid improvements to streetscapes.
As recorded in recent late afternoons, a lot of local residents and South Korean tourists have been seen sitting on stone benches along extended Bach Dang route - where rows of tamarind trees are planted - to relax.
Mr. Park Ji-in from South Korea remarked there were very few of tamanu trees in his hometown. This was the first time he had seen such trees in Da Nang. These trees are grown in rows along the banks of the Han River. Stone benches are placed under the trees, which is very suitable for both locals and tourists to relax in afternoons.
According to the Dictionary of Vietnamese Medicinal Plants, tamanu trees are used to treat stomach pain, boils, detoxification, tooth inflammation, gingivitis, rheumatism and kidney failure.
Aside from medicinal purpose, Tamanu is also used to build houses, furniture, tables, cabinets and others. Fallen leaves are grouped and burned to repel mosquitoes. Fallen tamanu fruits are burn or pressed into oil for lighting.
