The Ai Nghia Irrigation Station in Dai Loc District, Quang Nam Province, had to stop pumping water on Sunday morning as the Vu Gia River dropped to record-low levels.

On Sunday morning, the highest salinity level recorded at the Cau Do Water Supply Plant’s raw water intake on the Cam Le River was 3,327mg/l, 11 times higher than the allowed standard.

Earlier on August 4 and 5, hydropower reservoirs upstream of the Vu Gia River discharged too little water according to the regulations of the inter-reservoir operation process on the Vu Gia - Thu Bon river basin. Therefore, the Cam Le River at the intake of raw water into the Cau Do (Red Bridge) Water Supply Plant has severely affected by the intrusion of saline water since August 5.

On Sunday morning, the highest salinity level recorded at the Cau Do Water Supply Plant’s raw water intake on the Cam Le River was 3,327mg/l, 11 times higher than the allowed limit.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Yen River upstream of An Trach Dam is lower than the normal water level as well as lower than the design level of the saline prevention pumping stations by 0.3-0.4m, the lowest over the past 10 years.

The Da Nang Water Supply JSC has operated a valve system to collect water with low salinity on the surface of Cam Le River to ensure water reserves for domestic water production.

At the same time, the company has operated two anti-salinity pumping stations upstream of An Trach Dam, especially the newly invested one which was completed in late April 2023, in order to bring tap water to 2 water plants Cau Do and Airport for production, ensuring domestic water supply for the city.

General Director of the Da Nang Water Supply JSC Ho Minh Nam said that the company is operating two anti-salinity pumping stations to ensure tap water supplies for the entire city.

The water level of the Yen River at the upstream of An Trach dam dropped to 1.6m on the morning of August 6, the lowest in the past 10 years.
